7ο ΚΡΟΚΟΔΕΙΛΟΣ TRAIL ΚΟΛΙΣΑΥΡΑ RUN - ΚΟΛΙΣΑΥΡΑ RUN

The Paleochora Runners Association «Paleochora Trail Running Team» invites you on Sunday 29/03/2026, to the 2nd mountain running race «Kolisavra Run».

Who we are:
A beautiful group of athlete friends, which created and constitutes the Paleochora Runners Association «Paleochora Trail Running Team».

Goals of our athletic association and its events are:

  • The development of athletic/alternative leisure tourism, especially during the winter season.

  • The passing on of athletic values and «fair play» to younger ages, through the participation of children in corresponding introductory races.

  • The promotion and protection of the natural beauty of the wider region.

Proclamation «KolisavraRun»:
A strong introductory mountain running race, covering a distance of 6.5 km and 300 meters of positive and negative elevation gain. The name of the race as Kolisavra Run was given due to the relationship of this small reptile with its big competitive brother, the Krokodeilos Trail, in order to give you a strong taste of it. Also, the race unfolds over a relief terrain which constitutes a habitat for this small endemic reptile of Crete, the Kolisavra. It is an «Out-and-Back» type of race, which starts and finishes at exactly the same point (Skala location, eastern beach of Paleochora), with an on-the-spot U-turn exactly in the middle (3.25 km) and following the route initially uphill and then downhill exactly on the same track (blue marking). You can view and download the route to your device from “Komoot”, at the following link: Kolisavra Run.

Detailed description of the «Kolisavra Run» route:
The start is given from the eastern beach of Paleochora (Skala location). The first 800 meters are on completely flat ground within picturesque Paleochora, heading north until we reach the Kampos area and essentially the root of the hill we are about to climb. From then on, a steep uphill starts with a length of 2,450 meters, on alternating paths and rural roads, which will lead us to the highest point of the route, at the Vigles location and at an altitude of 300 meters. At 3.25 km of the race, we make an on-the-spot U-turn and following exactly the same path we just ascended, we descend 2,450 meters to the Kampos location and then the last 800 level meters that will lead us to the finish point. The view throughout the ascent and then during the descent is unique, as we gaze upon the Libyan Sea and Gavdos island from the south, the Crocodile cape from the east, the hinterland of the Selino province and the White Mountains from the north, and the wider area of Kountoura from the west. The combination of the amazing blue of the sky and the sea with the wonderful relief of the Cretan hinterland will surely enchant you.

Equipment:
The race route has all the characteristics of a mountain running race which takes advantage of the natural relief of the area. The particularity of such a race obliges us to suggest the following mandatory equipment for your safer and faster movement on the selected route. Shoes: Mountain running takes place on uneven rocky ground, so it is important to have Trail running shoes with reinforced traction and durability against distortions. Technical shirt, shorts, and hat: They wick away sweat, keep you as dry and cool as possible, and as the route passes through some narrow spots, these clothes provide a degree of protection from branches and small thorns.
